Appalachian fell to Georgia Southern in a 53-50 heartbreaker in Statesboro, Ga., last Saturday. Madi Story led the team with 15 points and a game-high 12 boards for her third-career double-double. Appalachian outrebounded GS, 48-30, but shot just 30.4 percent from the floor including its final 2-for-10 in the fourth that helped the Eagles to the win.
Sun Belt Initiative
Teaming up with Coaches vs. Cancer, each school in the league will participate in the 2017 3-Point Challenge as for every trifecta made in the month of February, the schools will donate the funds to assist the American Cancer Society in their research and services. The conference will crown a Sun Belt 3-Point Champion while all schools will be entered into a national contest for a chance to win the honor as the 3-Point Collegiate Champion.
What to Watch For
• App State has hit 16 3-pointers over the previous two games, including a season-high nine trifectas against Georgia State. See if the uptick in treys continue against the Sun Belt's top 3-point shooting defense.
• Story is averaging 17.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and three assists over the last two games. Against Texas State last season in the Holmes Center, Story scored a career-high 31 points en route to a 19-point win to snap Texas State's 3-0 start in conference play. Anticipate on Story continuing her solid play.
• In the first meeting on New Year's Eve, App allowed Texas State to shoot 50 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc. See if App can continue the trend of holding opponents to 36.6 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. in Thursday Sun Belt games.
• Appalachian scored just nine points on 22 offensive rebounds against Georgia Southern and is second in conference play recording 15.7 offensive rebounds per game. Watch if App can take advantage on the glass against TXST, who is allowing the seventh-most rebounds per game.
• In two losses in the last three games, App has averaged 20.4 turnovers while forcing just 14 turnovers against its opponents. See if the Black and Gold can turn the tide and cause havoc on defense.
Scouting Texas State (9-9, 4-3 Sun Belt)
• Texas State is riding a three-game win streak into the Holmes Center after defeating UL Monroe and most recently Louisiana last Saturday.
• The Bobcats are led by sixth year head coach Zenrae Antoine, who has her team with the second-longest win streak in the Sun Belt.
• Taeler Deer leads the team in points per game (9.7) and assists (3.1). Ericka May is posting a team-high 5.9 rebounds per game.
• TXST boasts one of the best defenses in the conference, as it is first in scoring defense (55.4 ppg), field goal percentage defense (34.5%) and first in 3-point field goal percentage defense (19.7%).
• Texas State is also second in the league in 3-point field goal pct. (35.9%).
• The Bobcats are 3-5 away from their home floor while owning a 1-1 mark in conference action.
• Texas State hasn't allowed a team to score over 50 points during the three-game win streak.

• App State is 3-2 all-time against Texas State after defeating the Bobcats on New Year's Eve thanks to Story's game-winning layup with 3.9 seconds left.
• Appalachian is 2-0 against Texas State on its home floor.
• The Mountaineers won on Texas State's court for the first time in the first matchup.
