Men's Hoops Wraps Up Georgia Trip in Atlanta

Appalachian State will look to even up its Georgia road trip with a win at Georgia State on Monday. The Mountaineers are coming off of a narrow four-point defeat at Georgia Southern on Saturday. Tipoff between the Mountaineers and Panthers is set for 7 p.m. on Monday night inside the GSU Sports Arena.

Monday's contest can be heard live locally on WATA 1450 AM in Boone and Blowing Rock. It will also be carried on Appalachian State's flagship station, WKBC 97.3 FM, as well as, WZGV 730 AM, WCOG 1320 AM, and online/worldwide on appstatesports.com and via the TuneIn app.

LAST TIME OUT
• App State dropped a close battle at Georgia Southern on Jan. 21, 92-88.

Ronshad Shabazz scored a career-high 36 points on a personal-best 13 field goals.

• Both Emarius Logan and Jake Babic also ended up in double-figures, while Isaac Johnson led the team with nine rebounds.

• Trailing by just five at halftime, the Mountaineers found themselves down by 12 points on multiple occasions in the second half, but closed to within just three, 89-86, on a Shabazz three with 16 seconds left.

• Despite the furious rally by App State, Georgia Southern was able to put the game away at the free throw line. For the game, the Eagles finished 34-47 at the charity stripe.

• Appalachian State and Georgia State will match up for the seventh time in program history. App State leads the series, 4-2.

• Over the course of the first two seasons as members of the Sun Belt Conference, both the Mountainers and Panthers have split the season series with both teams winning both games on their home floors.

Ronshad Shabazz netted a career-high 36 points on 13-for-24 shooting from the field in Saturday's loss at Georgia Southern. In the last four minutes of the game, Shabazz was 6-for-7 from the floor.

• It marked his first 30-point game and his 16th double-digit scoring game this season and 34th of his career. Shabazz played in a career-high 38 minutes.

• In league play, Shabazz is averaging 18.8 points per game to lead the Black and Gold. 

Emarius Logan tallied his fifth double-digit scoring game of the season and 13th of his career with an 11-point outing against the Eagles.

• Logan is averaging 10.3 points per contest in Sun Belt play and is shooting 22-for-27 at the foul line. He finished 7-for-9 against Georgia Southern on Saturday.

Jake Babic notched double-figures with 11 points against Georgia Southern. It marked his third double-figure scoring game of the season and ninth of his career.

• For the sixth time this season, Isaac Johnson led the Mountaineers in rebounding with nine against the Eagles. Johnson is averaging a team-best 7.3 rebounds per game in conference to play, while also chipping in 7.5 points per contest.

• In league play, Griffin Kinney is averaging 10.0 points and 7.2 rebounds, while shooting 60.0 percent from the field (24-for-40).1

• Appalachian outrebounded its opponent for the ninth time this season, outrebounding Georgia Southern 39-37.

• For the third time this season, the Mountaineers amassed 70+ field goal attempts (71) against Georgia Southern (31-for-71 - .435)

• Against the Eagles on Saturday, the Mountaineers did not commit a turnover for the final 18:49 of the second half. 

• Appalachian has forced 224 turnovers this season and turned those into 276 points — averaging out to scoring 1.2 points per turnover.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
• Georgia State enters tonight's contest with an 11-6 overall mark, including a 4-2 record in Sun Belt Conference play.

• The Panthers are most recently coming off of a 20-point rout of Coastal Carolina. The Panthers defeated the Chanticleers, 76-56.

• GSU is led by Jeremy Hollowell (15.9 ppg) and D'Marcus Simmons (10.0 ppg) in scoring.

• On the glass, Willie Clayton is leading the Panthers with 8.2 per contest, while also chipping in 6.8 points per game.

• The Panthers hold a +2.2 rebound margin, while limiting its opponents to 41.1 percent shooting from the floor and 32.1 percent from long range.

• As a team, the Panthers hit on 46.1 percent of its field goals and 37.0 percent of its threes. However, they are just a 66.1 percent shooting team from the charity stripe.

• They have protected the rim with 76 blocks this season - good for 4.2 per game.

• Appalachian State will return home to play two games against both UT Arlington on Saturday, Jan. 28 and Texas State on Monday, Jan. 30.
