About the Mountaineers
Last Time Out
The Apps suffered a 60-55 setback to Coastal Carolina on Saturday in Conway, S.C. Joi Jones and Q. Murray led the team while Jones became the 24th player in App State women's basketball history to reach 1,000 points. App committed 27 turnovers in the setback, which was the most since the season opener against DePaul. App State did hold Coastal to 32.8 percent shooting from the floor, the lowest field goal percentage Appalachian has held an opponent to on the road this season.
What to Watch for
• On Thursday conference games thus far (1-1), the Apps are averaging 6.2 more points (69.5-63.3) compared to Saturday conference games (1-2), while allowing five fewer points (62.0-67.0) as opposed to Saturday contests. Expect a better performance against the Panthers on Thursday.
• In four career games against Georgia State, Joi Jones is turning in 14 points per game, shooting 55.8 percent from the field and dishing out 3.5 assists. Anticipate on Jones bouncing back after Coastal Carolina.
• Georgia State is the third worst team in defensive points per possession (natstat.com), allowing .942 per possession. See if the App State offense can bounce back after scoring just 55 points against Coastal Carolina.
• The Mountaineers' 27 turnovers against CCU was the most since the season opener against DePaul (32 turnovers). Anticipate the Apps to protect the ball better against a GSU team that forces just 17.2 turnovers per game.
• App State has shot 46 percent inside the arc over the last two games, including a 48.7 percent mark (20-41) against Coastal Carolina. See if Appalachian can work the ball inside for easier buckets.
