Men's Hoops Hits Road to No. 6 Duke

Appalachian State University men's basketball will travel to in-state and Atlantic Coast Conference foe, Duke, for its fourth non-conference game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 26. The Mountaineers will tipoff with the No. 6 Blue Devils at Noon on Fox Sports South from inside Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Wednesday's contest can be heard live locally on WATA 1450 AM in Boone and Blowing Rock. It will also be carried on Appalachian State's flagship station, WKBC 97.3 FM, as well as, WZGV 730 AM, WCOG 1320 AM, and online/worldwide on appstatesports.com and via the TuneIn app.

LAST TIME OUT
• Appalachian State earned its second consecutive win with a 70-61 victory over Hartford on Nov. 23.

Ronshad Shabazz finished with game-high and season-high 28 points on 10-for-22 shooting from the field.

• Shabazz's 10 field goals were tied for the most in his career. He achieved 10 field goals on two occasions last season.

• Shabazz also finished with a team-high eight rebounds in the effort.

Isaac Johnson turned in the best game of his young career with career-highs in points (11) and rebounds (7).

• With just a 32-29 lead at the break, the Mountaineers opened the second half on a 19-4 run to really open the game up and take a 51-33 lead.

• Despite a comeback attempt, free throw shooting down the stretch helped App State secure its lead and victory.

• For the fourth consecutive game, the Mountaineers outrebounded its opponent.

SERIES HISTORY AND TOP STORYLINES
• Today's matchup will be just the ninth all-time meeting between in-state foes Appalachian State and Duke. The Blue Devils lead the all-time series 7-1 - all games have taken place at Duke.

• The last time both teams matched up was a 110-74 Blue Devil victory almost 29 years ago to the day on Nov. 28, 1987.

• The lone Mountaineer victory in the series came in head coach Kevin Cantwell's first season at the helm in App State's second game of the season on Dec. 5, 1981. The Mountaineers claimed a 75-70 win.

• Head coach Jim Fox is currently 1-2 against ACC opponents in his tenure at Appalachian State.

• For the fourth consecutive game, the Mountaineers outrebounded their opponent and hold a +12.0 rebounding margin over its opponents so far this season. The Apps are 19-11 in such games under coach Fox.

• The Mountaineers boast six players averaging at least 7.0 points per game this season: Ronshad Shabazz (17.5), Patrick Good (12.3), Jake Babic (9.0), Tyrell Johnson (8.5), Kelvin Robinson (8.3) and Emarius Logan (7.8).

• Appalachian State is currently 26th in the nation in scoring with 89.3 points per game. The Black and Gold are also tied for 28th in the country in rebounds per game (43.5).

• However, the Apps shot 10-of-12 from the line and were extremely effective down the strech at Hartford.

• Frank Jackson (16.2), Grayson Allen (15.3), Amile Jefferson (13.3) and Matt Jones (11.8) round out the top scorers.

• Duke is +6.3 in rebounding margin - outrebounding its opponents on average 39.5-33.2.

• The Blue Devils are shooting 48.0 percent from the floor, but just 36.4 percent from three-point range.

• They have gotten to the line 160 times in six games and are a 73.1 percent shooting team from the charity stripe.

• Duke has taken care of the basketball this season and has a +2.2 turnover margin, which  has also equated to a 1.2 assist/turnover ratio.
