Mountaineers to Travel to Keystone Classic

BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University wrestling will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. for the annual Keystone Classic on Sunday. The tournament is hosted by the University Pennsylvania and will start at 9 a.m.

In addition to host No. 22 University of Pennsylvania, 12 other teams will compete during the all-day tournament. Schools include: No. 4 defending champion Penn State, No. 23 Rider, Drexel, Eastern Michigan, Franklin & Marshall, Harvard, Northwestern, Pittsburg, Sacred Heart and VMI as well as No. 21 Appalachian State.

Keystone Classic Schedule
9 a.m. - First Round
2:30 p.m. - Semifinals
5:30 p.m. - Finals

Last season the Mountaineers placed fifth of 12 teams with Denzel Dejournette winning the heavyweight championship for the second straight year. 

Appalachian looks to continue its hot start of the year after placing well in the opening Southeastern (Hokie) Open and winning its first two duals of the season. The victories included a 50-0 win over Belmont Abbey and a 25-15 win over then-No. 15 Oregon State. The wins jumped the Mountaineers up into No. 23 in the USA Today/NWCA poll and No. 21 in the InterMat rankings.
