Box Score ARLINGTON, Texas –– Appalachian State University volleyball dropped its first match of the weekend to UT Arlington in a straight-set sweep (15-25, 11-25, 14-25) on Friday night.

"It's hard to watch what's happening this season," said head coach Matt Ginipro. "Injuries and youth are one thing, but we need a mentality shift to occur immediately. We are adopting a losing mentality and that can't happen. I hope we can fix it because, if we can't, it's going to make it an even more difficult year."
In the opening set, an 8-2 run by the Mavericks (9-9, 3-0 Sun Belt) opened things up and gave UT Arlington a 12-6 advantage. Appalachian would close to within just three points at 18-15, but UTA finished the set on a 7-0 run to win convincingly 25-15.
The Apps would struggle again in the second set and would get down early to the Mavs. With a 12-6 lead, the Mavericks would push its lead to 14 with a 12-4 run and take the second set 25-11.
With a 2-0 lead in the match, UTA kept its foot not the gas in the third set. The Mavericks jumped out to a 14-7 advantage and finished off the Mountaineers 25-14 to clinch the match.
Appalachian will return to the court on Sunday, Oct. 2 when it travels to Texas State to finish its road swing in the state of Texas. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
