Women's Tennis Heads to ECU for Invitational

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University women's tennis continues the fall slate with the ECU Invitational this weekend in Greensville, N.C.

Singles matches will begin on Friday at 11 a.m., before day two of action starts Saturday at 9 a.m. at the River Birch Tennis Complex.

North Carolina schools from the area will compete in the two-day invite, as host ECU, App State, North Carolina Central and Campbell will make the trip to the Pirates' campus.

App State is coming off a week's break since the fall-opening tournament two weekends ago at the Elon Invitational.

The Mountaineers have totaled eight singles victories and four doubles wins after the opening weekend. Sophomores Heidi Swope and Devin Knors paced Appalachian with two wins apiece while Knors advanced to the semifinals in her respective bracket and Swope recorded triumphs in the consolation bracket.

In doubles, the Apps improved as the weekend went on with Melissa Machado and Gabrielle Wreder highlighting App State. The duo went on to capture doubles in their consolation bracket.

“We're excited to get back on the court against other competition after having the week off,” stated head coach Blake Mosley. “We want to translate the improvement we made at Elon and get off to a fast start this at ECU.”
