BOONE, N.C. – The tests keep coming for Appalachian State. The Mountaineers (1-2) travel to Akron, Ohio this weekend for a tough, non-conference road test at Akron (2-1). Kickoff is Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Infocision Stadium in Akron.
ASN/ESPN3 will have the broadcast. TV clearances will be announced later in the week.
App State will try to shake off Saturday's loss to Miami and enter Sun Belt play next Saturday on the strength of an impressive road win.
Akron is coming off one of its more impressive wins under Head Coach Terry Bowden, a 65-38 win at Marshall on Saturday. The Zips returned a fumble and a blocked punt for touchdowns in the 34-point second quarter that produced a 41-21 halftime lead.
Appalachian State joins eight Power 5 schools - Alabama, Ole Miss, Southern Cal, Auburn, Florida State, Iowa State, and Oklahoma - as the only teams to have faced two ranked teams in the season's first three weeks, so the Mountaineers have faced a gauntlet. Now, they have to move past Saturday's loss, get back to work and improve as the Sun Belt Conference schedule approaches.
“Obviously, there was a lot of disappointment (in the Miami loss),” App State Head Coach Scott Satterfield said Monday. “Obviously we have to come back out and get ready to go. Tuesday we'll come back and have a great practice. We have to learn from our mistakes, but don't need to dwell on that game.”
The Mountaineers were off on Monday and will practice the rest of the week before flying out on Friday.
APP NOTES
NEW TO OHIO - App State will play football in Ohio for the first time in program's history. The Apps have only faced teams from Ohio twice previously, Youngstown State in the 2006 FCS Playoffs in Boone and last year's Camellia Bowl win over Ohio.
