Van Ord Earns USTFCCCA Academic Honor

NEW ORLEANS – Tristin Van Ord, a standout on the Appalachian State University women's track and field team, was selected as a U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) all-academic honoree, announced by the USTFCCCA on Thursday.

A total of 910 women from 192 institutions earned USTFCCCA all-academic honors during the 2015-16 track and field season. To qualify for the all-academic team, a student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:

• For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 for an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listin) in a relay event on the official POP list provided by TFRRs.org.

• For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I championships (including preliminary rounds).

At the 2016 Sun Belt Championships, Van Ord won the 10,000-meter run with a time of 35:47.91. She won her second event of the championship meet with a first place finish in the 5,000-meters with a time of 17:00.04. Van Ord's time in the 5,000-meter run set a new Sun Belt meet record.

Van Ord qualified for the NCAA East Region preliminaries and participated in the 10,000-meter run. She finished 21st with a time of 35:22.10 and did not advance.
