BOONE, N.C. — Ben Winterrowd has been appointed as Appalachian State University athletics' interim director of communications, director of athletics Doug Gillin announced on Monday.

Winterrowd will oversee athletics communications efforts while a national search is conducted to fill Appalachian State's vacant associate athletics director for communications position. 

Winterrowd is entering his fourth year as a member of the Appalachian State athletics communications staff. He came to Appalachian in 2013 as a postgraduate intern before being promoted to assistant director in 2015. He serves as the primary media contact for the Mountaineers' men's basketball, volleyball and outdoor track and field programs.

A two-time graduate of Western Illinois University (B.A. - 2011, M.S. - 2013), Winterrowd filled various roles in the WIU athletics department as an undergraduate and graduate student.

Once a new associate A.D. for communications is in place at Appalachian State, Winterrowd will be permanently promoted to associate communications director.
