Mountaineers Wrap Up First Session of Workouts
BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University women's basketball endured another day of summer workouts on Thursday, this time concluding the first summer session.

As the summer grows, so does the App State chemistry, and with another four weeks of workouts before official practice begins, Appalachian has matured since the first day of session one.

“Our first session was awesome,” said senior center Mia Marshall.  “I've seen so much growth in every student-athlete on the team, both mentally and physically. Our team has came a long way since last year, and we've all bought in.”

The Mountaineers went through shooting and fast-break exercises while playing full court two-on-two at the end of the session. Head coach Angel Elderkin and her coaching staff installed more high-paced drills to get the Mountaineers ready for their up-tempo style of play.

“We have really matured since day one of the summer,” said Elderkin.  “Each workout we're getting better and giving maximum effort on the floor. I couldn't be more proud of the team thus far. The sky is limit in how much we can improve and I'm excited for the next four weeks.”

Appalachian returns 13 of 15 student-athletes for the 2016-17 campaign while adding four-highly talented freshmen that look to make an immediate impact on the hardwood. The Mountaineers are poised for a run at the Sun Belt Championship after a 10-20 finish and 7-13 mark in the league.
