LAFAYETTE, La. – Tristin Van Ord led Appalachian State University women's track and field on day one of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships with a huge first-place finish in the 10,000-meter run.
Van Ord won the 10,000-meters with a time of 35:47.91. Brittany Williams grabbed sixth with a time of 37:18.15, while Dana Cox and Erin Jameson finished right behind in seventh and eighth with times of 38:13.87 and 38:44.32, respectively.
Taylor Drummonds scored four points with a fifth-place finish in the pole vault with a jump of 12-4. Hannah Emery took eighth with a vault of 11-9.75 and earned 0.5 points. Shea Wheeler scored a point in the javelin with a throw of 118-9 and an eighth-place finish.
In the hammer throw, India McWhorter set a personal-best with a throw of 174-0 and took seventh place and scored two points.
The women's team currently sits in second place with 23.50 points. Day two begins tomorrow with the women's long jump.
