Men's Track and Field to Host Appalachian Open

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University men's track and field will host the Appalachian Open on Saturday, May 7 before making preparations for the 2016 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships beginning on Friday, May 13 in Lafayette, La.

The Mountaineers will welcome student-athletes from Wake Forest, Queens, Lenoir-Rhyne and Mt. Olive for the Appalachian Open on Saturday.

Last night, two men's track student-athletes competed at the Hokie Twilight Qualifier in Blacksburg, Va. Both Michael Ellis and Jacob Sears competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and took first and second-place, respectively.

Ellis ran a time of 9:21.50, while Sears finished in 9:24.98.

Last weekend, App State hosted the Mountaineer Open and added five first-place finishes on the day.
