MIRMAR BEACH, Fla. — Appalachian State University men's golf completed the third round of the 2016 Sun Belt Championship on Tuesday at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort. App State shot its lowest round of the tournament with 291 in round three. The Mountaineers finished in 10th place with a total of 885.
Georgia State advanced as the No.1 seed into the match-play format of the championship with a score of 848. The Panthers were followed by Troy at 854, Arkansas State at 855, and South Alabama at 862.
Alex Burris posted the low-round of the day for the Mountaineers with an even-par round of 71. Burris finished with a total 222 and tied for 32 place. Patrick Moriarty had the lowest finish for the Apps at the championship as he tied for 15th. Moriarty shot 74 in the third round to bring his total to 216.
Chance Watson shot his tournament-low round with a 1-over par 72 on Tuesday. Watson tied for 37th place with a total of 223. Like Moriarty, Caleb Keck shot 74 in his final round. Keck had a three-day total of 224 and tied for 39th place.
Jake Smith again improved his score from the previous day with a 75 on Tuesday. Smith finished in 53rd place with a total of 235.
After failing to qualify for the match-play round of the Sun Belt Championship, the 2015-16 season has come to a close for the Mountaineers. With only one senior in Keck, the Apps will bring back four of the five starters who competed in this year's championship.
