BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University volleyball celebrated a highly successful 2015 campaign last Saturday, April 16 with its second annual banquet held on the fifth floor of the Athletics Center.
The banquet included remarks from both head coach Matt Ginipro and associate head coach Chad Willis, as well as, the presentation of 2015 team awards and recogntion for a stellar senior class.
2015 Volleyball Team Awards
Yosef Award: This award, given by the volleyball strength and conditioning coach, is for the athlete who shows the most discipline and hard work in the areas of strength and conditioning. This player shows a positive attitude and focus while in the weight room and their improvement is a reflection of their determination.
Recepient: Cassidy Stephenson
Rookie of the Year: This award recognizes the player who, in her first year of competition at Appalachian State made major contributions to the success of the team.
Recipient: Alana Shoff
Most Improved: This award recognizes the individual that has exhibited the most progress over the course of the season. This player made a consistent, conscious effort, to increase her level of play, maintaining a positive and determined attitude along the way.
Recipient: Melissa McMath
Most Valuable Player: This award recognizes the student-athlete who by virtue of her athletic talents made the most visible impact on the team during the season. This honoree's contributions were deemed the most valuable in achieving the teams' goals.
Recipient: Paige Brown
Best Defensive Player: This award recognizes the athlete who made a significant contribution to the team's success through her defensive play (whether it be through blocking or backcourt play).
Recipient: Meghan Mahoney
Best Offensive Player: This award recognizes the athlete who made a significant contribution to te team's success through her offensive play (whether it be through attacking, serving, setting, etc.).
Recipient: Jess Keller
#appSOLID Award: This award is presented to the athlete that has shown perservance through any situation on and off the court. This person never gives up and shows that determination in all aspects of their lives. When given a challenge or difficult situation either in volleyball or their life outside volleyball, this person shows courage and resolve. This individual has "Given her all for Appalachian State" and embodies everything SOLID (Sacrifice, One Team, Little Things, Integrity, Discipline) stands for.
