BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University softball lost games one and two of a three-game set with Georgia State on Saturday by scores of 15-0 in six innings and 11-9.

The Mountaineers (9-35, 2-15 Sun Belt) had the chance to win it in the bottom of the seventh in game two, but couldn't complete the comeback and have now dropped six straight. The Panthers (23-22, 6-8 Sun Belt) ran their win streak to four since their seven-game skid on April 2-10.

For the day, Heather Josey and Jenny Dodd each had three hits and Dodd raised her batting average up to .331, the highest it's been since March 5 (.333). Those who had two hits apiece included Ally Walters, Cara Parker and Katie Mathewson. Walters hadn't had multiple hits in a game since the South Alabama series and Mathewson has accomplished the feat twice in her last four games.

Game One: Georgia State 15, App State 0 (6 Inn.)

Georgia State scored four runs in the second, two in the fifth and nine in the sixth to win by way of the run rule. App State used all four of its pitchers as Annaleise Kennedy (2-12) went four innings in the start followed by Claire Eosso (1.1 IP), Katherine Johnson (0.1 IP) and Vanessa Ciocatto (0.1 IP). The Black and Gold's four hits came from Natalie Orcutt, Tiffany Taynor, Dodd, and Josey.

Game Two: Georgia State 11, App State 9

In the nightcap, the home team trailed its visitors 11-4 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning before it began to mount quite the comeback effort.

In the home half of the fifth, Josey scored Parker on a sacrifice fly to left and Mathewson followed suit with a fly ball to right that brought in pinch-runner, Mallory Choplin.

Two innings later with time running out in the bottom of the seventh, Walters singled in Josey and Brescia came through with a two-run double down the right field line. That cut the deficit to two, 11-9, but that's where it would end up as Orcutt fouled out and Taynor popped up to the second baseman for the second and third outs.

Kennedy got the start again, but lasted just two innings before Ciocatto (7-17) came in for the final five innings of relief. Kennedy walked two and struck out one while Ciocatto was responsible for four free passes and two punchouts.
