ATLANTA - Appalachian State University women's tennis (6-12) suffered a 4-0 setback to No. 43 South Alabama (19-4) on Saturday in Clarkston, Ga.
The Jaguars were too much in taking both doubles matches while capturing the two singles matches they needed to clinch the victory.
Rebecca Morse and
McKayla Zupan suffered a 6-0 defeat to Maria Cinta Papke and Laura Matuskova between a pair of No. 3's.
Taylor Bygrave and
Megan Mullen was downed by Monica Mitta and Alina Zolotareva, 6-2, which gave the Jaguars the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
Morse fell as the No. 5 in the lineup to her counterpart, 6-0,6-0 before
Melissa Machado fell to Mitta in the No. 2 slot, 6-2,6-2.
Clare Cox was dealt a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Laura Valkova.
The doubles match for Cox and
Heidi Swope went unfinished while
Gabrielle Wreder, Swope and Zupan's singles match went unfinished as well.
Appalachian will conclude the weekend tomorrow with a showdown against archrival Georgia Southern at 10 a.m.
