MONROE, La. — Appalachian State University baseball dropped the final game of its three game series with UL Monroe, 6-2, on Saturday after the Warhawks (10-13, 2-4 Sun Belt) hit three home runs over the left-field wall. The Mountaineers (5-19, 1-8 Sun Belt) lost the series, 2-1.

App State got on the scoreboard first in the third inning. Chandler Seagle hit a lead-off double down the left field line and then was moved over to third base on Brian Bauk's sacrifice bunt. Tanner Mann-Fix brought Seagle home with a single up to middle, giving App State a 1-0 advantage.

The Warhawks would respond in the bottom half of the third with a big frame. After a fielding error and a base hit, ULM's Jacob Stockton hit a three-run home run to left field. Mountaineers starter Colin Schmid hit the next batter with a pitch followed by Tyler Cox hitting the second ULM homer of the inning, giving the Warhawks a 5-1 lead.

The Warhawk's Will Daniels added another run in the fifth with ULM's third home run of the game, stretching their lead to five runs.

Appalachian again tried to use a late inning rally against the ULM bullpen. Bauk led the inning off and was hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on a ground out. A Matt Vernon single to the shortstop put two men on base. Two wild pitches brought Bauk to third and then across home plate, cutting the lead to, 6-2. A fly out ended the inning with two men left on.

The Apps were unable to get anything going in the final frame, dropping the game and series to the Warhawks.

ULM starter Brandon Bell earned the win after pitching seven innings, allowing one run on three hits. Schmid suffered the loss, going 2.1 innings and giving up five runs on four hits.

The Mountaineers will be back in action at home for a midweek contest against N.C. Central on Wednesday at Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium. First pitch set for 6:00 p.m.
