TROY, Ala. - Appalachian State University women's tennis (4-10, 0-2 SBC) dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 47 Georgia State (9-5, 2-0 SBC) Friday afternoon at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
GSU is the third-ranked opponent the Mountaineers have played this season, falling to then-No. 4 North Carolina and then-No. 44 Wake Forest earlier in the campaign.
The Panthers were too much for the Mountaineers while taking two of three doubles matches and six singles matches.
Clare Cox and
Heidi Swope gave Appalachian its lone victory in doubles play, while over the weekend, the two teammates came away with a singles and doubles win.
Melissa Machado and
Megan Mullen fell 6-3 to Niri Rasolomalala and Kristin Rehse to kick-off the day.Cox and Swope tied the doubles portion with a 6-4 victory over Tarani Kamoe and Linn Timmermann.
However, GSU captured the 1-0 lead in the final doubles match as
McKayla Zupan and
Rebecca Morse suffered a tough 6-4 setback to Chiara Volejnicek and Daniela Ramirez.
In singles play, Swope tried to get the Apps on the board but couldn't get any momentum going with a 6-0,6-0 decision to Chiara Volejnicek at No. 4 singles. In a clash of No. 2's, Machado fell , 6-0,6-1 to Rehse followed by Cox's 6-3, 6-1 setback to Timmermann. Morse (No. 5) and
Gabrielle Wreder (No. 3) battled against their counterparts, but both went down, 6-3,6-3.
Remi Andre would get her first action of the spring in singles at the No. 6 spot, falling to Daniela Ramirez, 6-2, 6-0.
The Apps will have the rest of the weekend off and will return to action on Wednesday at home against Gardner-Webb at 2 p.m.
