App State Completes Day One at Wake Forest Open

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Appalachian State University women's track and field completed day one of the Wake Forest Open with eight top ten finishes on the day.

The Mountaineers were led by Samantha Campanaro who claimed the top spot in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 17:32.54. Campanaro also had two teammates finish in the top ten, both Brittany Williams and Ann Sekutowski who placed seventh and ninth, respectively.

Williams ran a time of 17:45.49, while Sekutowski finished with a time of 17:57.61.

USATF indoor track and field qualifier, Darlene Girardeau, placed seventh in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.87.

In the field, App State boasted four top ten finishes. In the high jump, both Makayla Roten and Libby Florence placed fifth and ninth, respectively. Roten placed with a height of 5'3" and Florence posted a jump of 5'1".

Brianna Tate finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 45'4" and India McWhorter claimed eighth in the hammer throw with a distance of 162'3".

The Mountaineers will finish up the Wake Forest Open tomorrow.
