Women's Track and Field Set for Outdoor Season

BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University women's track and field opens up the outdoor part its schedule this weekend at the Wake Forest Open in Winston-Salem, N.C. Just last month, the Mountaineers claimed the University's first-ever Sun Belt Conference championship at the indoor championships.

The Mountaineers were led in large part by Tristin Van Ord and Darlene Girardeau. Van Ord claimed individual titles in the 3,000m and 5,000m runs and posted 20 team points. Girardeau ran the second-fastest time in program history in the 60m dash and took third-place.

Girardeau also qualified for the USATF Indoor Track and Field championships.

Last season, the Mountaineers opened the outdoor campaign in Winston-Salem as well. The Apps posted six top-five finishes and one first-place finish.
