BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State University men's tennis (6-4) will look to get back on track on Saturday in Greensboro, N.C. with a 12 p.m. match at UNC Greensboro (3-3).
The Mountaineers did have a match against Gardner-Webb on Thursday, but it was called off due to the pouring rain that hit the area.
App State is coming off a tightly-contest 5-2 setback to College of Charleston last Sunday. CofC would take the doubles point winning two out of three matches before capturing four of the five singles matches.
Four of the six singles matches went to a third set with the doubles contests being just as tight.
Scott Webster and Jan-Willem Kleynhans won their doubles match with a 6-1 triumph to extend their winning streak to five matches and a 7-1 overall record as the No. 2 tandem.
Oliver Casey owns a team-high seven wins after winning his fifth-straight match on Sunday. Since moving over to the No.2 spot in the lineup, the senior is 5-0. Jack Maddocks has also been playing well with three victories in a row after a hard-fought three-set win against the Cougars. Maddocks is tied for second with six victories and a 4-2 mark alone in the three slot.
Webster and Bost also have six victories while the men is 35-25 (.583) in singles action and bost a solid 20-7 (.741) mark in doubles competition. The duos of Casey/Maddocks and Bost/Morris have six wins under their belts to tie for the second-most wins.
UNCG has lost three out of the past four matches after starting the season, 2-0. The Spartans most recently suffered a 6-1 loss to No. 25 NC State after dropping a 7-0 decision to the No. 1 team in the country against North Carolina (7-0).
Connor Thompson leads the team with a 4-2 mark in singles competition as the No. 1 in the lineup while the Spartans are 14-22 overall in singles action. Daniel Mack and Thompson boast a 4-2 mark in doubles competition to lead UNCG.
The Black and Gold will have a quick turnaround on Monday for a match in Jacksonville, Fla. against Bethune-Cookman at 2 p.m.
