Hot-Shooting Eagles Move Past Mountaineers, 88-63
Box Score STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern made eight of their first 10 three-pointers and jumped out to a 30-8 lead that they would never relinquish in an 88-63 win over Appalachian State University men's basketball on Thursday night inside Hanner Fieldhouse.

The Mountaineers (7-21, 5-12 Sun Belt) began the game with just two field goals in the opening 10:41 of the first half, one of which was a layup from Griffin Kinney that gave Appalachian its only lead of the night at 2-0 to start the game. Kinney finished the ballgame with nine points and seven rebounds.

Frank Eaves led App State in scoring with 13 points, while freshman Emarius Logan turned in his fourth-straight double-figure scoring game with 12 points. As a team, the Mountaineers shot a season-worst 6.3 percent (1-for-16) from 3-point land in the opening half.

For the Eagles (14-14, 10-8 Sun Belt), they were led by Tookie Brown with 18 points, followed by Ike Smith with 14 and Mike Hughes with 12. For the game, GS made a program-best 16 three-pointers on 26 attempts - good for 61.5 percent.

After racing out to a huge 30-8 advantage, the Eagles would win the rest of the half 22-15 to lead the Mountaineers 52-23 at the break. The 52 points from the Eagles tied a season-high given up for App State in the first half. Of the Mountaineers 23 first half points, 10 came at the free throw line. App State finished with just six field goals on 28 attempts.

Appalachian would win the second half of play 40-36, but the first half deficit proved too large to overcome on Thursday. The Mountaineers finished with 21 points at the charity stripe - shooting 72.4 percent on 29 attempts.

The Mountaineers will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 27 when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to take on Georgia State. Tip time for that contest is slated for 2:30 p.m.
