Women's T&F Competes in Appalachian Open Split

BOONE, N.C. - In its final meet before the Sun Belt Indoor Championships, Appalachian State University women's track and field hosted the App State Pre-Conference Open in both Varsity Gym and the Holmes Center on Friday. The Mountaineers won five events and placed in the top three a total of 12 times. 

App State took first in the shot put with Ashley Muschiatti (43-10), the high jump with Makaila Roberts (4-9.50), the pole vault with Lainey Hunnicutt (11-0.25), the mile with Christina Shearon 5:25.21), and the 200-meter dash with Krystal Clarke (26.12).

Sofia San Miguel in the pole vault (10-6.25) and Kate Butler in the mile (5:25.31) represented the Black and Gold's two second-place finishers.

Those who rounded ot the top three in their respective events included Amber Daniel in the shot put (40-7.50), Audrey Diener in the pole vault (10-6.25), Erin Jameson in the mile (5:31.72), Avery Walter in the 400-meter dash (1:00.42), and Kerry Leonard in the 800 (2:29.52).

As mentioned above, next up for the Mountaineers is the Sun Belt Indoor Championships, which will be Monday and Tuesday in Birmingham, Ala. at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
