Women's T&F Takes Team Trophy in West Virginia

HUNTINGTON, W.V. - Appalachian State University women's track and field turned in a first-place performance on Friday and Saturday as it won the Chipotle Marshall Invitational and did so with 110 points.

The Mountaineers won three events and turned in a top-three finisher nine times in a meet that scored 16 events total. Wake Forest came in second with with 99.5 points while homestanding Marshall rounded out the top three with a score of 92.

Darlene Girardeau won an event for the fourth time this season and did it for the first time in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.54. Girardeau also won the long jump for the first time as a Mountaineer with a mark of 18-5.25 and Kaytlyn Gill was a first-time winner in the triple jump with a distance of 40-7.5.

The other top three finishers included Tristin Van Ord in the 3,000 (second/9:41.76), Brittany Williams in the 5,000 (second/18:01.82), Taylor Drummonds in the pole vault (second/12-3.5), Hunter Welborn in the high jump (tied for third/5-5), Chelsey Hargrave in the triple jump (third/40-1.25), and Brianna Tate in the shot put (third/48-7.25).

Next up, the Black and Gold will host the App State Pre-Conference Open on Friday, Feb. 19.
