NEW ORLEANS -  Appalachian State University women's basketball guard Madi Story was named the Sun Belt Conference's Student-Athlete of the Week for her performances against UL Lafayette and UL Monroe last week, the league office announced on Monday.

Story garners the award after averaging 20.5 points, five rebounds and four assists while shooting 40 percent from the floor, 36.4 from beyond the arc and an impressive 92.9 percent (13-for-14) from the free throw line.

Story is the first student-athlete on the team to receive the accolade this season, while being the first Mountaineer since Maryah Sydnor was named Student-Athlete of the week last season on Nov. 25, 2014.

Against ULL where the  Apps won by an impressive 17 points (76-59), Story played facilitator as she scored a team-high 23 points, dished out five assists and grabbed six boards. Story scored in various ways on six buckets, a pair of 3-pointers and a career-high nine free throws in 35 minutes of action, which tied her career high.

The all-around performer scored 18 of her points the second half against the Cajuns, including 11 in the final period when the Apps exploded for 31 points. Story finished with a plus-16 in the plus/minus category and a team-high 22 PER (player efficiency rating). She played a hand in 33 of the team's 76 points (43 percent) as well.

In the 64-52 win over ULM on Saturday that swept the season series, Story scored a game-high 18 points (12 in the second half) while her plus-13 was a game-high and finished with a PER of 16.

Story scored 30 of her 41 points in the second half over the two contests shooting 47 (8-for-17) percent from the floor. The Maiden, N.C. native recorded a team-high plus-29 last week as well.

Story has taken on the leading scorer's role averaging a team-high 12.1 ppg along with 4.3 rpg and 2.2 apg. In conference play, Story is seventh in scoring at a 14.0 ppg clip and ranks in the top 15 in apg. She's scored in double figures in nine-straight games, turning in 16.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg and 2.8 apg during the stretch.  Story has played at least 30 minutes in five out of the past six games. In games where she's played at least 30 minutes, she's averaged 17.5 ppg, 4.3 rpg and 3.3 apg.

The Mountaineers and Story will look to push the win streak to three games on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. (ET) at Texas State in San Marcos.
