Boone, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's track and field will travel to ETSU for the second time this season as one of nearly 60 schools for the Buccaneer Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The meet will take place inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletics Center on David E. Walker Track at Gentry Field.
Events are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Friday with the 60-meter hurdles, which is a part of the women's pentathlon, and will wrap up around 8:15 p.m. with the men's 5,000-meter run. Saturday's festivities will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the women's long jump and will close out around 5:45 p.m. with the men's 4x400-meter relay final.
The Apps were last in action this past weekend for the Mountaineer Open in Boone and turned in a good showing by winning 14 events and taking both first and second place in 11 of them. For field events, Appalachian won the weight throw, shot put, high jump, and pole vault. On the Holmes Center track, they were the first to finish in the 55-meter hurdles, 55-meter dash, 200, 300, 500, 800, mile, 3,000, 4x300, and 4x400.
Crunch time is here for the Black and Gold as this weekend's meet is one of just three before the Sun Belt Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-23 in Birmingham, Ala. inside the Birmingham Crossplex. Those other two meets prior to Alabama are the Marshall Invitational (Feb. 12-13) and the App State Pre-Conference Open (Feb. 19).
