Boone, N.C. - Appalachian State University women's track and field was the host school for the Mountaineer Open on Saturday and acted like it by winning 14 events with both first and second place in 11.
Inside Varsity Gym, India McWhorter won the weight throw (59-7), Brianna Tate the shot put (46-3.25), Hunter Welborn the high jump (5-7), and Taylor Drummonds the pole vault (12-0).
The Black and Gold continued to put on a clinic when it came to the running events inside the Holmes Center. In the sprints, first-place finishers included Imani Chapman in the 55-meter hurdles (8.22), Darlene Girardeau in the 55-meter dash (7.07), Kaytlyn Gill in the 200 (26.16), and Brooke Brekke in the 300 (42.80).
For middle distance and distance, Shelby Howell was first in the 500 (1:17.26), Torre Moser in the 800 (2:20.69), Elisa Sargent in the mile (5:16.02), and Emily Fedders in the 3,000 (10:36.08).
Appalachian also took first in both the 4x4 with the team of Sarah Hoffert, Howell, Phylissa Greeley, and Morgan Oakley (4:10.51) as well as the 4x3 with Chapman, Girardeau, Gill, and Catherine Crawford (2:49.72).
Next up, the Apps will travel to ETSU for the second time this season as part of the Buccaneer Invitational on Feb. 5-6 in Johnson City, Tenn.
