BOONE, N.C. - After having the Saturday's contest against Georgia Southern postponed due to the winter storm, Appalachian State University women's basketball (5-11, 2-5 SBC) is set for a showdown against Rival Georgia Southern at 4 p.m. in the Holmes Center.

The Mountaineers suffered a tough 80-75 setback on Thursday to Georgia State despite a season-high 22 second-chance points and 26 points off of turnovers. Bria Carter scored a career-high 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting along with five boards. Madi Story scored 16 points and grabbed a career-best eight boards, seven of which were on the offensive end.

Story Taking on the Scoring Load
Over the past four games, Madi Story has averaged 17.3 ppg on 44. 3percent shooting from the field, including a career-high 31 points against Texas State on Jan. 14. The Maiden, N.C. native leads the team in scoring at a 10.8 scoring clip, which is in the top 20 in the Sun Belt. In conference play, Story is 13th in the league in scoring at 12.4 ppg.

Win for App State Would
• Improve the Mountaineers' record to 6-11 overall and 3-6 in Sun Belt play.

• Give the Mountaineers a 5-3 record at the Holmes Center.

• Snap a three-game losing streak.

• Give the Apps a three-game win streak over the Eagles.

• Drop the Eagles to 5-12 and 2-6 in conference play.

• Give Georgia Southern its fourth loss in the past six games.

• Give the Eagles their sixth road loss of the season and third road loss in conference action.

Five Things to Watch for vs. Georgia Southern
•  Bria Carter scored a career-high 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting from the field against Georgia State on Thursday. In last season's two games against Georgia Southern, the junior guard averaged 14.5 ppg on 68.4 percent shooting from the field.  See if she can keep the same level of play against the Eagles on Monday.

•  On top of Carter's performance against GSU, the Spotsylvania, Va. native averaged 8.1 ppg over the last 15 games of the season in 2014-15. In the first contest of the second half of the season, Carter scored 17 points. See if she can have the same stretch of the second half of the schedule as she did in her sophomore season.

•  Story has been on a tear in the last four games, averaging a team-high 17.3 ppg on 44.3 percent shooting from the field. Watch if she can continue her uptick in scoring on Monday.

•  Watch for the Apps to play a full 40 minutes against Georgia Southern. Appalachian scored 25 points in the first quarter and 42 in the first half against Georgia State while owning a 5-point lead at the break. However, App State scored just 33 in the second half and couldn't sustain the momentum in the third and fourth quarter.   

•  Appalachian scored season high in second-chance points (22) and points off of turnovers (26) despite the loss. The Mountaineers are outscoring opponents, 13.1-8.5, in second-chance opportunities while outscoring the opposisition, 16-2.-12.8 in the five wins in points off turnovers.

Scouting Georgia Southern (5-11, 2-5 SBC)
• Georgia Southern's leading scorer Angel McGowan is averaging 15.7 ppg (14.8 overall) in conference play, which is third in the league.

•  Patrice Butler leads the visitors in rebounding, bringing down 5.4 rpg. Alexis Sams is dishing out a team-high 2.5 apg.

•  App State and Georgia Southern head into the game with identical 5-11, 2-5 records.

•  The Eagles two wins in conference play have came against South Alabama and rival Georgia State. GS has had two losing streaks of at least three games this season.

•  Georgia Southern leads the all-time series with a 36-19 mark.

•  The Apps have won six of the past eight contests, including a series sweep last season.
