Men's Hoops Falls at Home to Charlotte, 82-66
Box Score BOONE, N.C. – Despite 24 points from Frank Eaves, Appalachian State University men's basketball was outrebounded 43-25 and fell to a hot-shooting Charlotte team by a score of 82-66.  Eaves shot 50.0 percent (6-of-12) from the floor, 4-of-7 from three-point land and a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe.

The Mountaineers (2-8) fell behind 8-2 early on in the first half, but closed the gap quickly with a 8-2 run spanning just 1:32 off the game clock. Back-to-back threes from Matt O'Boyle (Peoria, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain/Pima Community College) and Eaves keyed the run for the Black and Gold and was finished off with a Tyrell Johnson jumper.

In a game of runs, the 49ers (2-8) went back ahead 18-13. However, Appalachian would quickly close the gap and tie the game twice before taking the lead, 23-21, on an Eaves' three at the 9:38 mark of the first half. App State would push to its biggest lead of the game, four points, on an Eaves jumper to extend its lead to 25-21.

Up by four, Charlotte would go on a back-breaking 15-0 run to take a 36-25 lead with just about four minutes to go in the opening half. Consecutive threes from Jake Babic and Dustin Clarke and a free throw from Griffin Kinney had the Mountaineers within five points of the Niners, but would end up trailing Charlotte 40-33 at the break.

Under one minute into the second half, App State found itself down by nine points, but a jumper from Kinney and a three from Eaves was followed by a steal and a slam from Jacob Lawson had the Apps to within just two points at 45-43 with 17:46 still left in the game.

An 11-2 run from the Niners would put Charlotte back in control at 56-45. Consecutive buckets off an O'Boyle jumper and a Babic three brought App State to within six points at 56-50. However, that would be the closest the Mountaineers would get the rest of the way.

Charlotte (30-for-59 - 50.8 percent) outshot Appalachian State (22-for-54 - 40.7 percent) from the field. The Niners scorched the nets from long range and hit 11-of-18 from beyond the arc.

Kinney, like Eaves, finished in double figures with 11 points. The sophomore forward also grabbed six rebounds and dished out a team-high four assists.

The Mountaineers will have a quick turnaround before heading to Chapel Hill for a Monday night showdown with No. 11 North Carolina on ESPN2. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
