BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State University volleyball head coach
Matt Ginipro announced the addition of
Ashlyn Brown, a transfer from New Mexico State University on Friday.
“Ashlyn is a great addition to our gym this spring,” said Ginipro. “She's a talented setter and will have the opportunity to run the team herself this spring which will give her some great experience going into next season.”
Brown will be a junior when she suits up for the Black and Gold next fall after spending the previous two seasons playing for the Aggies. As a sophomore the setter saw action in 13 matches, including one start. Brown averaged 3.82 assists per set in 28 total sets this past season.
As a freshman, Brown played in 82 sets and finished second on the team with 355 assists and 4.33 assists per set. She also tallied 94 digs and recorded 1.15 digs per set, while accumulating five matches with at least 20 assists. Brown recorded a career-high 25 assists in a 3-1 victory against Seattle University.
Brown played volleyball for Bishop Verot High School in Fort Meyers, Fla. and ended her career ranked No. 1 in the state of Florida among 4A teams in assists with 480 and also in kills with 288. During her 2012 season, Brown was named District and team MVP and also named to the second-team all-area.
