Last Time Out
The Apps' upset bid at North Carolina fell short, 68-59, in Carmichael Arena on Saturday. Freshman Kaila Craven led the team with 15 points, while Ashley Bassett-Smith snagged a career-high 12 boards. App State outrebounded UNC, 59-44, thanks to the trio of Bassett-Smith (12), Mia Marshall (10) and KeKe Cooper (9) combining for 31 of the team's rebounds.

Crashing the Glass
The Black and Gold dominated the boards, 59-44, on Saturday at North Carolina including a 21-8 advantage on the offensive end. App State is the top rebounding team in the Sun Belt, ranking first in rebounding margin (plus-4.3), offensive rebounding (18.4 rbg), defensive rebounding (27.7 rbg), offensive rebounding percentage (38.2) and defensive rebounding percentage (69.8).

Getting Shots Up
App State is averaging 65 shots per game through the first seven contests of the season while its 460 shots is the third highest in the Sun Belt. The Black and Gold shot a season-high 80 attempts against UNC on Saturday, the most since App Satate shot 80 in the 2011-12 season opener at Virgina on Sept. 11.

Watch to Watch for versus Richmond
• Watch if the Apps can build off a fourth quarter where they shot 10-for-19 (52.6 percent) against the Tar Heels.

• See if App State can force Richmond into mistakes. Appalachian is forcing its opponents to commit 19.3 miscues per game,which is tied for the fourth highest in the Sun Belt. Richmond is averaging just 14.2 turnovers per game.

•  Keep an eye on Joi Jones against the Spiders, as she is averaging 17 points per game in the Apps' two home contests compared to the 7.8 ppg on the road.

• Watch to see if the Apps continue to do a good job of moving the ball. App State is averaging 12 assists per game (9.7 overall) over the previous three games. The  Mountaineers have assisted on 36 of 68 field goals (53 percent) during that span.

• Anticipate on App State controlling the glass once again. In Richmond's three losses this season, its opponents have outrebounded the Spiders by an average of 16 boards (46-30). Richmond has also given up an average of 13.6 rebounds on the offensive end in the three setbacks and 11 second-chance points per contest.

Scouting the Spiders (6-3, 0-0 A-10)

•  The Apps and Tar Heels meet for the seventh time in program history.

•  App State and Richmond are playing for the seventh time but just the first time since the 2010-11 season.

•  Richmond has won the past four matchups after App State won the first two. The Spiders own a 4-2 mark all-time in the series.

•  In five of the six matchups, the winner has gone on to win by more than 10 points.

•  The Apps own a 36-31 (.537) mark against current A-10 members.

•  Richmond is 6-3 after suffering a 73-47 defeat to James Madison on Sunday.

•  The Spiders have lost three of their last four games following a 5-0 start to the season.

•  Janelle Hubbards paces the Richmond offense, averaging 16.6 points per game. Lauren Tolson (13.4) and Micaela Parson (10.0) round out the leading scorers.

•  Hubbard is third in the Atlantic 10 Conference in scoring while Tolson's 20 three-pointers are fifth in the A-10 and her 2.5 treys per game ranks third in the league.
